$ 50.00Limited Edition Box Set - Includes:T-shirt, Double Mix CD & 10" Vinyl, Tote Bag (limited of 300, hand screen printed by us at 101). BIO: DJ/Producer Ron Trent, rooted in the dance music world for over 29 years, is largely regarded for producing and playing an eclectic range of music. Raised in Chicago's early underground music scene in the 1980s, which transitioned from Disco into House.. A perennial presence in music since the early 90's, Ron Trent is considered to be one of the architects of the Chicago music scene. He began the journey through studying and collecting records from a young age, taking cues from his father who ran a record pool in the late 70's. This upbringing provided the strong foundations which not only enabled him to become a respected DJ in his early teens, but also gave him the confidence to embark on his own productions in the mid 80s, culminating in his first release, the highly recognized and international acclaimed classic "Altered States", in 1990.Through his legendary Prescription Records, Ron has notched up an extensive back catalogue of his own productions and introduced several key players. Prescription Records is widely regarded as one of the most influential Deep House imprints of the period. In the early 90's, Ron collaborated with House/R&B team Hula & Fingers, producers for Jive records and production credits with Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, Kool Mo D, High Five, Lidell Townsend and MTF. Under the direction of Hula & Fingers, Ron began to develop his skills as producer and musician by incorporating his training as a percussionist along with developing skills on the keyboards. After several releases on Club Records, Hula & Fingers classic imprint, Ron went own to form his own label with renowned vocalist/producer Chez Damier. In 1993, Ron and Chez began creating the template for what would become the signature Prescription sound, eventually finding its way into various remix and writing production hits, and implementing the conception of Prescription Records. Prescription Records, together with it's sister label Balance, introduced the likes of Anthony Nicholson, Abacus, Glenn Underground (CVO), Moody Man, Norma Jean Bell, Joshua, Peven Everett, Rob Mello, and Luke Solomon to the world. During its course, Prescription became known for issuing superbly produced, often epic dance music by drawing influences from all over the globe and delighting club goers, as well as DJs with its highly unique sound.Ron's sound expanded in 1997 with the release of the dance classic "Ncame U.” With writing partner Anthony Nicholson, famed vocalist D'bora, and Peven Everett on trumpet, this record launched Ron onto the NYC dance scene. After moving to NYC in the early 90's, Ron Trent quickly gained respect as a DJ/Producer by playing for Body and Soul at Shelter and hosting his own events at the legendary night club Vinyl in downtown Manhattan. Ron’s DJ and production skills would eventually lead to collaborating with giant step records, creating a new sound that would lead the way for the future of Giant Step the club and Giant Step the label. In 2000, Ron started his highly popular weekly residency with Giant Step at Shine, bringing forth a fusion of Neo Soul, Jazz Funk and World music whilst merging it into a dance formula. With Ron's vast knowledge of music and Giant Step’s thirst for the cutting edge, the event became one of the most top rated nights in NYC. Ron's in-house productions on the Giant Step/Sony label, featured artists such as Amel Larrieux, Jody Watley, Anastacia, Donnie, Carl Hancock Rux, Lina, just to name a few. His productions have lead to work with other greats including Tony Allen, Chucho Valdes, Papa Weba, 4Hero, Amp Fiddler, Groove Collective, as well as various other world artists. DJ compilations include: “Giant Step Sessions” (Giant Step), "Musical Reflections (R2 BBE), “Afro Blues” (Kings Street), “Deep&Sexy 2” (Wave music), “Abstract Afro Journey” (King Street). In addition to prescription, Ron Trent created two further imprints which broadened the scope of his music production spectrum. Electric Blue recordings features more experimental sound, pushing the envelope and complementing the already established prescription sound. Future Vision Records was created as a platform to combine various artists with the signature Ron Trent production. Ron has also built up a quite a reputation within the music industry circles with his unique interpretations and reformulations of commercially popular tracks on his remixes, such as 'Honey' by Erykah Badu and 'Spring Summer Feeling' by Jill Scott. Outside of running record labels Prescription, Future Vision, Electric Blue Recordings and Music And Power, the last few years has seen Ron Trent making his presence known internationally: from regularly gracing the decks at Berghain in Berlin and making appearances at ADE in Amsterdam, to playing for serious audiophile and music connoisseurs in both London (Need2Soul, Boiler Room, Brilliant Corners) and Japan (Air, Circus)....just to name a few. Now based back in Chicago, Ron Trent's musical quest for knowledge and tones continues. Having been featured on Red Bull Music Academy numerous times and co-curating the multimedia exhibit 'Move Your Body - the Evolution of House Music' at the Chicago cultural centre in summer 2015, 'SODA' is an organisation Ron Trent founded in 2016 with the aim of perpetuating and preserving the legacy of underground music through cultural and educational events for future generations ahead. QUOTE: "Rhythm and tone creates our existence. We are the music. Understanding the cosmic power of Sonics is an ancient theology. In urban environments music is a pressure valve, a social scale, the metronome of city life. Some people admire the music, some play with music, and others become the music. The craft I study is lineage passed down from the likes of David Mancuso, Nick Siano, Tee Scott, Larry Levan, Frankie Knuckles, and Ron Hardy to name a few. The art of evoking feelings and telling stories through recorded materials (Records) is by far one of the most intriguing, mystical, and misunderstood forms in this last century. DJ culture has taken the world by storm but has now become somewhat of a surface philosophy compared to the true power underneath. Time marches on and things will change but the original surge of Music and Power will not. The pure source of what makes us all feel the way we do when we collectively come together and rejoice, chant, and move is universally sound. When we open ourselves beyond limits we can touch the frequency that pulses in the airwaves. Music and Power has been my moniker for over the past decade because it best describes the purest essence of what I do and what I am connected to. Art and design has always been the root of it all for me. I studied architecture from the earlier stages of my life alongside, playing drums, collecting music, and being a history enthusiast. I guess you can say it is a combination of who I am and what I do today as producer of sonic forms. Collaborating with 101 is allowing me to express a portion of my vision to share with my collective worldwide. I admired 101 Apparel’s ability to capture a certain ratio of analog inside of their design. I am a big fan of punk art and rebel design. There is a chicness inside of simplicity and a complexity in its creativity. This presentation is a combination of my sentiments through Sonics and fabrication, all weaved together to connect to you." - Ron Trent Ron Trent "Music & Power" DJ Mix Double CD Ron Trent "Music & Power" 10" Vinyl - Side A Ron Trent "Music & Power" 10" Vinyl - Side B Ron Trent On Boiler Room - Celebration Of "Music & Power"
GE-OLOGY “STAYS DIGGIN” T-SHIRT W/MIX CD & 7-INCH VINYL
$ 40.00Package includes T-shirt, Mix CD & limited edition 7-Inch featuring Mos Def & Yukimi Nagano of Little Dragon (limited of 300, hand screen printed). BIO:In today's fast-paced culture of opportunism and ambition, you seldom meet an individual with remarkable abilities and a storied history of achievements concurrently anchored in humility. Thus, the virtuoso known as GE-OLOGY is a rare find indeed. During the 80's, the young Baltimore native eventually relocated to New York City, where his multi-dimensional talent was destined to ripen with opportunities that continue to ensue globally. This masterful music producer, exceptionally skilled DJ, and equally gifted visual artist has been acclaimed for over two decades, however he remains somewhat of a mystery. Over the course of his career, he's worked with the likes of Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Jill Scott, De La Soul, Yukimi Nagano (Little Dragon), Jem and even a young Tupac Shakur. After years of producing dominantly hip-hop tempo releases, he defiantly returned in 2015 with the dance floor monster "Moon Circuitry" featuring Mark de Clive-Lowe (his debut single on Theo Parrish's esteemed Sound Signature imprint). It was received in high regard as perhaps one of the top releases of the year in the underground dance music scene (instituting anticipation for his full-length LP scheduled to be released later this year). Although his roots in composing 4-on-the-floor dance tempo music dates as far back as his earliest hip-hop beats, this seemingly "new" direction boldly challenged expectations based on his previous body of work. Yet to the contrary, his very first production appearance came in the form of a collaboration with the Baltimore-based house music legends, The Basement Boys, who used one of his tracks for their 'Those Guys' moniker in 1993. Collecting records from the age of 5, playing instruments from age 9, and DJing since the age of 11...his relationship with music has been a lifelong journey of unyielding education & exploration. There's something very personal, intimate and risky in his approach to playing records that you don't often experience in today's DJ sets. Traveling across continents with selects from his carefully curated vinyl collection, he digs deep, weaving diverse genres that seamlessly coalesce to bring dance floors to life. QUOTE:"Back in May of 2016, a message from my good friend Mark de Clive-Lowe showed up in my inbox. It was an email introduction connecting Eric Crandell (the founder of 101 Apparel) with me for a possible collaboration project. Over the years, 101 Apparel had collaborated with a list of acclaimed DJs, artists and music producers for their limited-edition "101 Apparel Artist Series", so I was quite honored when they reached out to me as well. At the time, Mark and I were riding the wave from my Sound Signature release, "Moon Circuitry", a raw uptempo dance-oriented song which features his brilliant keyboard playing in combination with some soulfully-unapologetic "slap you in your mouth" music I produced. The record broke boundaries, won awards and opened eyes in ways I didn't anticipate, majorly catapulting me back into the music production scene after my 5 year hiatus away from releasing records. And things have been growing stronger and stronger ever since...something I'm beyond grateful for. So when the 101 Apparel opportunity presented itself, I knew immediately that it would be important to connect the dots back to my history...helping my new audience I've acquired in the current underground dance chapter of my career, to also have a taste of my roots in underground hip-hop, etc. For the exclusive promo 7-inch, I wanted to revisit a song favorite I produced and recorded with Mos Def, and on the flip, include a previously unreleased song I produced and recorded with Yukimi Nagano (prior to the formation of the band Little Dragon she's now become famous with). Constantly touring and DJing internationally this entire time, it's taken longer for everything to finalize for this project, but I knew once all was completed, it would be special. Plus being that 2018 marks the 25th anniversary since my music was first released on vinyl, I felt this was also the perfect way to remind or enlighten folks that I didn't just pop onto the music scene in 2015. Despite my youthful appearance, I've been at this for quite a long time. It's remained important for me to not only continue to challenge myself in new ways, but to maintain the balance of staying true to the principles that my legacy was first founded on...the things that I've learned from the greats that came before me. Collecting records since the age of 5 means that diggin' for music has literally been threaded into the fabric of my lifestyle the last 4 decades. It's been a lifelong journey of discovery, education and pure joy that keeps me growing, learning and sharing. So I definitely wanted my DJ mix to reflect this. My goal was to cohesively weave a slow-building story using numerous vinyl gems from various soulful genres I've collected over the years...records that would eventually inspire the listener to get up out of their seat and dance, evoking the kind of inner happiness that only music from the soul can fill us with. Whether we're familiar with the music or not, or what year it was recorded and released...good music that moves us remains timeless in my opinion. And hopefully through my selections, this becomes apparent...enjoy!" - GE-OLOGY Ge-Ology "Stays Diggin" DJ Mix For 101 Apparel Ge-Ology Stays Diggin 7" Vinyl EP: "Superstar" Featuring Mos Def Ge-Ology Stays Diggin 7" Vinyl EP: "Longin" Featuring Yukimi Nagano

In the past future of today, RAS G explores space and time through his ancient/futuristic music. Dusty, ethereal and bugged out, the Crate Creator's beats bring the past to the future. Back On The Planet, _G's first Brainfeeder release in years, finds the blunted master of the beat guiding his Afrikan Space Program further out than ever. Since his arrival on the planet, RAS G has called Los Angeles his base. Growing in South Central, _G was tapping into his innate knowledge while having the earthly experience of living in the "ghetto." Gravitating towards the turntables early, _G spent formative years DJing spots like Project Blowed and Five On The Black Hand Side in Leimert Park until his cousin Wolverine introduced him to the SP-1200 and thoughts of production became realities. Equally informed by the looped-up dust of classic boom-bap and the avant-garde esotericism of free jazz, _G began paving his own path in the beats. He cut his teeth in the early days of Low End Theory and in precursor nights like JuJu and Sketchbook. Day long hangouts at record spots like Aaron's (RIP) and Poo Bah's laid the foundation for projects, live experimentations and new experiences. A key pillar in the Los Angeles community, _G is the power-forward of the Brainfeeder crew, down since day one.Its an honor to present to you our "Alternate Destiny" project with RAS G & The Afrikan Space Program. NICKODEMUS "BACK IN THE DAYS" MIX CD & T-SHIRT
$ 32.00Features exclusive Mix CD by Nickodemus for 101. Nickodemus grew up in NYC in the 80's and 90's on a healthy dose of Hip Hop, Reggae & House. He got his 1st turntables at age 12 & was attending clubs & DJ'ing in them by age 15. Since then he's traveled the World over spinning a wide range of club music & producing 3 albums & 100's of remixes to date. "Back in the Days" is a new single release on his homegrown WONDERWHEEL Recordings label & it features The Real Live Show (Sun Children, Give the Drummer Some, Moon People) as well as The Jungle Brothers legend BAM (aka Afrika, aka Baby Bam). The cover art was made by some of the influencial records of the 80's & 90's that shaped Nickodemus' sound as a DJ & producer. The 101 mix references that "Back in the Days" vibe with some samples of the 169 records used in the design of the letters in a current club sound bringing it all full circle. "You know how we used to do it Back in the Days!" Wonderwheel Recordings is pleased to present Back In The Days, the first taste of the brand new Nickodemus album coming in 2014. Touring and collaborating with musicians all over the world since 1996, Nickodemus is continuing his impressive streak. One of Nickodemus’ biggest musical influences has been the Native Tongue Movement of the ’90s, so they already spoke the same language and knew they had to work together. The Real Live Show, the barrier-breaking duo of Stimulus and Malik Work, have collaborated on several past songs with Nickodemus including “Give the Drummer Some,” “Sun Children,” “Gimme the Music,” “Moon People,” and more. “Back In The Days” is the meeting of these minds, all quick to the concept of going back to their NYC roots. BAM takes listeners to the ’80s while Stimulus and Malik Work aim for the ’90s. The song hits hard with a hip-hop (read: electro-funk) groove meets acid house style and tempo. Nickodemus goes solo on “The 303 Scenario” which does what it says on the tin, developing into a thick but fun acid track. Both of these songs and the alternate Hip House version of “Back In The Days” would work over any dancehall.

His passion for jazz resulted in a remix album for Blue Note which was well received by the community. LeFtO is forever moving forwards but always got an ear in the past. Famed for his gloriously eclectic dj sets, he switches effortlessly between hip hop, funk breaks, neck-snapping beats, future bass, south-american influences, bruk riddims and some wild african rhythms. In his country, which voted him 5th best DJ of all-time, he's not only a deejay and producer but also curates his own stage at the Dour Festival and his successful awarded nights in Gent, Belgium. The travel resulted in a compilation on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings with partner in crime DJ Simbad and another one for Universal. Kutmah: When talking about Kutmah, it’s tempting to use an epithet such as “the best DJ you’ve never heard”, or “best kept secret”. But we like to think enough people know about him now to make that unnecessary. Justin McNulty was born in Brighton, England to an Egyptian mother and Scottish father. He moved to the United States when he was 12 years old and grew up in Hollywood, California. It was here where Justin became Kutmah and ultimately made a name for himself as a talented underground artist & DJ. Kutmah became a member of LA’s dublab collective and then in 2004 he founded the celebrated clubnight ‘Sketchbook’ which forged fundamental roots of the now-infamous LA beat scene. As an associate of Flying Lotus’s Brainfeeder collective, his mixtures from his time spent on the West Coast are legendary amongst those that know, and he’s also released several of his own original records – even though he’s predominantly a DJ, with foundations in hip-hop and a record collection that spans far beyond the genre. Since his time in LA, Kutmah has relocated back to England and currently resides in London. He now holds down a show on NTS Radio, and has furthered… "Symbiosis" is when two deejays work separately on a mix and end up creating the same atmosphere. 80 minutes of music inspired by our environment, backgrounds and our friends. When Danny is not touring the world, he's also 1/3 of the famed NYC party 'Body & Soul', along with celebrating, now 10 years of his own 718 SESSIONS parties (Time Out “Best Party Of NYC). "I've always felt music has a much larger voice then just the words of a song. Like in a movie, the way a great soundtrack moment lifts the meaning of what is being said, I feel like music at it's best speaks louder then words, deeply touching your soul & striking emotions. I especially love the musicianship & arrangements of 70's soul & disco... again, it speaks to you with a depth. When I started out, most good DJ's played records that talked to you & all together took you on a journey, hope you enjoy this little journey." Danny Krivit
QUANTIC "STREAMS OF NEW MUSIC" MIX CD AND T-SHIRT
Sold OutFeatures exclusive Mix CD by Quantic for 101. Will Holland aka Quantic is one the most prolific and innovative working producers today. What started back in 2000 with a little known 7 inch has turned into a long and varied career where he has bridged the gap between raw funk inspired drums, Latin driven rhythms , African percussion and his unique brand of musicianship. Quantic has released many albums in various guises and has DJ’ed and performed worldwide with musicians of the highest caliber.Quantic’s story is a long and winding narrative whose chameleon like sensibilities has perfectly paralleled a lot of the aesthetic interests of many of the left field dance producers of the last decade. When he first came onto the scene he turned heads in the hip-hop and alternative dance music scenes by releasing two albums of thick funk driven breaks coupled with hazy atmospheric psychedelia that featured the emerging talent Alice Russell. Whereas there were other producers working in this mold during that time, there was something different about Quantic’s approach, a distinct template that hinted at something more dynamic in the works. In 2003 Quantic released “ The Quantic Soul Orchestra” an LP that showed an incredible amount of growth, pushing the boundaries of Latin, Soul, Funk, and Brazilian with Will Holland’s multi-instrumentalism on display. Since then he has released another album under the same moniker with a more tropical dub approach that garnered critical acclaim for its expanded horizons. He has since released many 7 inches, underground mixes and full albums. His upcoming album is entitled “Tradition in Transition”, with his band “Quantic and his Combo Barbaro”, a record that features the famed drummer and record collector Malcolm Catto and the legendary orchestral composer Arthur Verocai. It is an album that treads new ground for Quantic fusing Caribbean, Latin and African influences with an explorative and rhythmically deep approach to traditional folkloric and experimental sounds. In 2007 Quantic moved to Cali, Columbia where he has been digging for lost unknown treasures of cumbia, salsa and latin funk. This t-shirt collaboration with Quantic entitled “Streams of New Music from Old Sources” includes a mix cd full which is the work of networking and digging on the front lines of Cali Colombia and what came together is nothing short of breathtaking. It is a mind melting amal- gam of cumbia funk, African inspired salsa, and Colombian vocal tracks that put you front in center of Latin American musi- cal history.
RICH MEDINA "A DANCE TURNED TO ROMANCE" MIX CD & T-SHIRT
$ 32.00Features exclusive Mix CD by Rich Medina for 101. There are few nightclub DJs that have accomplished as much on a global scale as Rich Medina. From his humble beginnings as a young b-boy-turned-DJ in Lakewood, NJ, to his current status manning the decks as one of the most popular DJs in Philadelphia NYC, Rich Medina has consistently taken multi-ethnic crowds on a sonic journey through hip-hop, house, Afrobeat, funk and soul, unearthing one musical gem after another, for almost 20 years. In addition to his own events, Rich has performed in front of crowds of thousands, DJing shows with artists like Lauryn Hill, De La Soul, Erykah Badu, Seun Kuti, Tony Allen, Nathan Haines, Roy Ayers, Gil Scott-Heron, The Roots, Jill Scott, Antibalas, Zap Mama, and Femi Kuti, among many others. From NYC to LA to London to Tokyo, and everywhere in between, music lovers know not to miss a club night when Rich Medina is manning the decks. "When I was approached to be the next DJ on the 101 Apparel roster, I committed immediately. I was also quickly clear that I wanted to do a mix that was not only universal conceptually, but also unique to the perspectives of the brilliant DJs who'd done 101 Apparel mixes before me. I firmly believe that just about every person who's ever danced with someone at a party, club, or musical setting of almost any sort has experienced attraction, or felt romantic. It could be just one song in the course of a night, but that song can often lead to lasting friendships, intimate relations , and in some cases, families. Many who've studied US club culture also have many romantic notions about the Paradise Garage and Loft era in NYC where legendary pioneers Larry Levan and David Mancuso, along with their pioneering brothers and sisters, laid down the fundamental blueprint that many consider "The Gold Standard" for club concepts and atmosphere. For me, music in and of itself is love, and love songs don't always come in the form of a ballad. Songs written in the spirit of love and romance as the theme are some of the best "feeling" songs any of us have ever experienced, and I put this mix together with that in mind. I can only hope that you enjoy "A Dance Turned Into Romance" as much as I enjoyed putting it together. Bless up, and rock rock on".- RICH MEDINA
CHICO MANN "AFRO FREESTYLE" MIX CD & T-SHIRT
$ 32.00Chico Mann, a time-travelling multi-instrumentalist-producer who with drum machines, synthesizers, and guitars has singlehandedly filled the 30+ year gap between afrobeat, afrocuban, freestyle and electronic music while throwing a wrench into the cogs of musical history. Chico Mann grew up in a musical family in New York and New Jersey. His father was the owner of a Latin record label based in Hell's Kitchen in New York City and a young Chico observed the ins & outs of the biz while practicing his guitar and piano. It was then that he began to propagate his deep musical roots with such influences as Afrika Bambaata, Lisa Lisa, Willie Colon, Celia Cruz and Fela Kuti. Ignoring his father's advice to stay out of the business, he found his voice at age 12 and began his journey into sound. It was in the winter of '04 that Chico began putting together a series of tracks during his offtime from touring with Antibalas. What started as a lo-fi beat making excursion quickly became "Manifest Tone Volume 1", a musical lesson that spoke volumes on the music of New York City, Miami, Cuba, Africa and the previously unknown love affair in sound that 'could have been' had Afrobeat, Electro, and Freestyle cross-pollinated. Hailed as an instant classic, it proved as the first step in a groundbreaking career that is destined to re-write the history books. Chico Mann has created a musical time machine that simultaneously fuses the sounds of 1970s Afrobeat, 1980s Freestyle and Afro Cuban in a hybrid beast of culture and tone. Its the big 'what if' Freestyle, Afrobeat & Afro Cuban converged and hit the mainstream for an army of Chicos to pick up where Stevie B, TKA, George Lamond, Sa-Fire, Information Society, Noel, Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, and Exposé left off. Chico's choruses of multi-layered vocals with funky guitar lines helps to cool off the heat created between the bass and rhythm... creating a unique conversation of color and value that pays homage to the past but raises the bar for the future. The Afro Freestyle Mixtape features exclusive Tkat re-edits and Caito “el Gallo” Sanchez on percussion. Its an honor to present to you “Afro Freestyle”.Tkat, a Brooklyn based DJ, fuses his love of electronic, Afrobeat, 80's freestyle, hip hop and club music, not only in his DJ sets, but also in his participation for the last three years in the live performance of the music of Chico Mann. LEFTO "UNIVERSAL MAGNETIC" MIX CD & T-SHIRT
Sold OutFeatures exclusive Mix CD by Lefto for 101. As one the most important tastemakers Europe has to offer, and affiliated with labels Brownswood, Blue Note, !K7 Records, Stones Throw and Jazzy Sport, this bearded early riser is consistently a couple steps ahead of your average early adopter. He doesn't wait for the next thing to land on his lap, he actively seeks it out, therefore just take a peek at his playlists on Belgium's foremost national radio station Studio Brussel which received compliments from Rough Trade Shops and Gilles Peterson. However, don't assume that he's only working futuristic angles - no sir. Firmly rooted in jazz and hip hop, he sharpened his digging sensibility working at the now legendary Music Mania record store in hometown Brussels. He's not only a deejay and producer but also curates his own stage at the Dour Festival and his own nights in Gent in collaboration with Democrazy. World renowned, LeFtO regularly blesses sound systems from Tokyo to Seoul and Singapore to New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. He has been a resident deejay for Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Festivals since 2008 around the world. Camera under the arm, he is also one of the few deejays on this planet who can deejay somewhere and have a nice movie on the internet a couple hours later, with over 250 videos on Youtube and Vimeo, it's very impressive. The travel resulted in a compilation on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings with partner in crime DJ Simbad. This guy goes on where others stop... “To me, music is universal, it has the capability of connecting like minded people all around the world without even speaking the same language and it all works as a magnet. Today, thanks to the internet, musicians are able to meet and work with other musicians on a global scale, people are listening to music in shuffle mode and musical styles mix up to create new styles. This mix is what I do, mix up styles, blend them into different styles of music to create one sound, one world. When 101 Apparel asked me to do a mix, the minute after that I had the concept ready and here it is. Make sure you have your passport ready for this mix and enjoy this journey around the globe.” - DJ LEFTO (BROWNSWOOD RECORDINGS)
DJ SPINNA "FUTURE SHOCK" MIX CD & T-SHIRT
$ 32.00Features exclusive Mix CD by DJ Spinna for 101. For our exclusive mix/t-shirt series we invited the one and only DJ Spinna from NYC to provide us with a set of sounds culled from his legendary music collection. Spinna is an internationally renowned selector, musician and producer who worked with all the heavyweights of the golden-era NYC hip-hop scene ( Gangstarr, Brand Nubian, Jungle Brothers) and who transitioned into a top tier remixer who has crafted dozens of dancefloor classics that span disparate genres from soul, funk, disco, house and afro music. For all his contributions to the music industry, it’s amazing that he has been able to become master the art of being a dj, something that many producers flirt with but rarely command with such dedication, style and creativity as Spinna has. His now legendary WONDER- Full parties ( all Stevie Wonder, all night long) have been so popular in NYC that he had to tour them to other cities ( SF, LA, Tokyo) and has since birthed other tribute parties with a similar theme. For “Future Shock”, Spinna put together a mix that looked to older vintage sounds with a distinct space-age futurist aesthetic in mind. It’s a journey through funky, forward, thoroughly retro-modern sounding tracks with a focus on the future and one foot in the past. The design is also reflective of that aesthetic with the text “Future Shock” in large vintage lettering.Throughout my years of digging for records I've always been particularly drawn to music that is heavily influenced by the electronic revolution. There was a long stretch where I would specifically hunt for Moog, New Age, Jazz Fusion, & experimental records... anything that involved synthesizers, but still had a groove. Upon the inquiry from 101 Apparel to come up with a concept for a mix my initial thought was it has to be unique. It was the opportune time for compiling tracks from past to present that capture the electronic experience. Future Shock is born and is without a doubt one of the most brain crushing mixes I've ever done! I hope you dig it.DJ SPINNA
WAAJEED "ELECTRIC STREET ORCHESTRA" MIX & T-SHIRT
Sold OutFeatures exclusive Mix by Jeedo for 101. CD is out of print, a download card will be included with the t-shirt. Upon returning to the States, Waajeed was mentored by late Slum Village rapper and producer James Yancey, better known to the world as J Dilla. Inheriting an MPC 2000 from Yancey, he began producing on his own, recording some of his first songs with fellow Detroiters Elzhi and Dwele, and contributing heavily to Slum Village’s Trinity album in wake of Yancey’s departure from the group. In 2001, he established his own imprint, the Bling47 Group, while a quest for Drum Crazy break LP distribution in Detroit led to a recording deal with Ubiquity Records and the formation of the Platinum Pied Pipers (PPP) with Darnell “Saadiq” Bolden. In 2003, PPP released its debut “Ridin’ High”/“Open Your Eyes” single, and two years later, the full-length Triple P. Triple P, with production contributions from instrumentalists Mystro and Mark de Clive-Lowe, and features from Sa-Ra Creative Partners, Steve Spacek, and hometown MCs Ta’Raach (aka Lacks) and Invincible, earned the duo widespread industry acclaim as well as aided in launching the careers of Georgia Anne Muldrow and Tiombe Lockhart. On Abundance, the 2009 follow-up to Triple P, the talents of up-and-comers Coultrain, Karma Stewart, and Jamila Raegan were on display as Waajeed expanded the group’s sound in reflection of inspiration garnered from countless remix projects, world tours, and collaborations with artists such as Cee-Lo, Estelle, Jazmine Sullivan, Raheem DeVaughn, and Daniel Merriweather. 2010 and beyond finds Waajeed still in lofty collaborative company, musically (Diddy, Mayer Hawthorne), but also broadening expertise in videography and continuing his work on the lecture circuit, including a four-year relationship with the Red Bull Music Academy and an appearance at the 2010 Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival’s Bodega Education Initiative in support of his mentor and friend, J Dilla. The forthcoming PPP3 album and projects with “Mad” Mike Banks, Karizma, Ana Tijoux, and Invincible are certain to keep the still-emerging producer grounded and on the right path, no matter how much the business of music and its frustrations occasionally threaten to expose rugged, Hockeytown roots.“I've had dreams about this mix for the last couple years. When 101 Apparel reached out to me about the collab between Bling47 and 101 Apparel it was perfect timing. I was in the middle of working on my newest project called Electric Street Orchestra (ESO). I wanted this mix to follow the same principals as the project, mixing my Detroit techno heritage with beats from a multitude of genres. To find a way to make Rock, Pop, and Hip hop sync with Ghetto tech. After making over 70 edits and two months of intense labor I achieved my goal. Now dance your ass off!” JEEDO aka Waajeed CD IS OUT OF STOCK (A DOWNLOAD CARD WILL BE INCLUDED WITH T-SHIRT)

NIGHTMARES ON WAX MIX CD & T-SHIRT
Sold OutFeatures exclusive Mix by Nightmares On Wax for 101. We here at 101 Apparel have been huge fans of Nightmares On Wax since the early sounds of “Smokers Delight” to our favorite “Caraboot Soul”. Its an honor to present this exclusive design collaboration with DJ E.A.S.E. of Nightmares On Wax. Each t-shirt will include an exclusive mix CD by DJ E.A.S.E. of Nightmares On Wax! Nightmares on Wax is DJ and musician George Evelyn, also known as DJ EASE (Experimental Sample Expert), from Leeds, UK. The musical style is a combination of electronic sounds and hip hop beats, often regarded as "Chill Out". Nightmares on Wax's music is released on Warp Records. Evelyn got his start in the music industry through an interest in hip hop and on joining a local breakdancing crew, he met Kevin Harper and together they released their first album in 1991, a techno-edged record entitled A Word Of Science: The First And Final Chapter. Evelyn went on to run The Headz Club in Leeds, and started his own record label, Poverty records. The next Nightmares on Wax release was not until Smoker's Delight in 1995, by which time Harper had left to pursue a career in DJing, reducing the band to a solo project. Evelyn began to record more of his trademark chill-out tracks, and brought in a variety of musicians and vocalists, giving the music a greater variety as well as allowing him to take the band out on tour. In 2000, Evelyn assisted in the comeback of hip hop pioneers De La Soul, when they appeared on the EP The Sound of N.O.W.. Although De La Soul have maintained a steady, loyal and strong fanbase since the beginning of their career some have argued that Evelyn's EP helped push them back into the public eye. In 2005, Evelyn started his own independent record label, Wax On. The upcoming N.O.W. album is set to release in conjunction with this t-shirt collaboration, mid summer.
