$ 30.00We all know the genre, all don't know how to dance, but definetely recognized the sounds when it hits the ears. Its a sounds that captivates your body and soul. A little history of Salsa: Salsa music is a general term referring to a genre that is based largely on Cuban, Puerto Rican and Dominican popular dance music. It initially arose in New York City during the 1970s. Salsa is the product of various musical genres including the Cuban son montuno, guaracha, cha cha chá, mambo, and to a certain extent bolero, and the Puerto Rican bomba and plena. Latin jazz, which was also developed in New York City, has had a significant influence on salsa arrangers, piano guajeos, and instrumental soloists. Salsa is primarily Cuban son, itself a fusion of Spanish canción and guitar and Afro-Cuban percussion, merged with North American music styles such as jazz. Salsa also occasionally incorporates elements of rock, R&B, and funk. All of these non-Cuban elements are grafted onto the basic Cuban son montuno template when performed within the context of salsa. *Includes a special download card redeemable for 1 download of your choice from our DJ Mix Series.
$ 30.00Spiritual Jazz is a style of Avant-Garde Jazz music which emerged in the 1960s. It is closely associated with the musical and spiritual philosophy developed by John Coltrane in the mid-1960s (manifested as early as his seminal A Love Supreme album) which was passed on to his collaborators Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders. Stylistically, spiritual jazz is marked by a mixture of jazz with approximations of ethnic music styles (often a blend of styles evocative of African, Indian, and East Asian musical traditions), religious music of non-Christian traditions, and the ecstatic, transcendental aspects of Free Jazz. This radical style was closely linked to various African-American political and spiritual movements, such as the Nation of Islam and Afro-Centrism, the introduction of Zen philosophy and yoga in America, a resurgence of Egyptology, as well as the Civil Rights and Black Power movements. Notable spiritual jazz musicians include Frank Wright, William Parker, David S. Ware, Idris Ackamoor, Don Cherry, and Ndikho Xaba & The Natives. The record labels Strata-East Records and Black Jazz Records are known for having released spiritual jazz albums. *Includes a special download card redeemable for 1 download of your choice from our DJ Mix Series.
SUN RA - SATURN
$ 30.00SUN RA born Herman Poole Blount, legal name Le Sony'r Ra, May 22, 1914 – May 30, 1993) was an American jazz composer, bandleader, piano and synthesizer player, poet and philosopher known for his experimental music, "Cosmic Philosophy", prolific output and theatrical performances. He was inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame in 1979. For much of his career Sun Ra led "The Arkestra" an ensemble with an ever-changing name and flexible line-up. Born and raised in Alabama, Blount would eventually become involved in the 1940s Chicago jazz scene. He soon abandoned his birth name, taking the name Sun Ra (after Ra, the Egyptian God of the Sun) and developing a complex persona and mythology that would make him a pioneer of Afro-futurism, he claimed he was an alien from Saturn on a mission to preach peace and throughout his life he consistently denied any ties to his prior identity. His widely eclectic and exploratory music would eventually touch on virtually the entire history of jazz, ranging from swing music and bebop to free jazz and fusion, and his compositions ranged from keyboard solos to big bands of over 30 musicians. From the mid-1950s until his death, Sun Ra led the musical collective "The Arkestra" (which featured artists such as Marshal Allen, John Gilmore, June Tyson throughout its various iterations). Its performances often included dancers and musicians dressed in elaborate, futuristic costumes inspired by ancient Egyptian attire and the space age. Though his mainstream success was limited, Sun Ra was a prolific recording artist and frequent live performer, and remained both influential and controversial throughout his life for his music and persona. He is now widely considered an innovator; among his distinctions are his pioneering work in free improvisation and modal jazz and his early use of electronic keyboards. Over the course of his career, he recorded dozens of singles and over one hundred full-length albums, comprising well over 1000 songs and making him one of the most prolific recording artists of the 20th century. *Includes a special download card redeemable for 1 download of our choice from our DJ Mix Series.

NEW MUSIC COLLABORATIONS
MdCL & GB "POWER TO THE PEOPLE"
"Power to the People is about activism through art. Music certainly doesn’t have to be angry, loud or noisy to embody the spirit of progress, freedom and unity - sometimes it’s the quiet ones that resonate the most. For my part, the mixtape selection is all about music with undeniable essence and substance that goes hand in hand with great artistry and reflecting the human spirit. Taking the past and recontextualizing it to the present - keeping it all timeless. On the 7” we’ve paid homage to two iconic titans of jazz - Charlie Parker and Joe Henderson - the former remixed by me and the latter reworked from scratch with an original GB interpretation. Kick back, relax and enjoy!"
