Left Of Center Design featured in Antenna Magazine

Everyone knows that to be an innova- tor in any field, music, art, science or design you have to be able to walk a different path than the rest. That’s who this design is for, the innovators, seek- ers, and those willing to go the uncon- ventional route. There’s a famous quote about Andy Warhol; “he made all his art on the edges and declared it the cen- ter and the whole art world circled around him”. This shirt takes that idea and plays free jazz with fonts, juxta- poses words in a unique way; it cre- ates, innovates and reinvents those creations

Online Article - "Wearing the Music with 101 Apparel"

Ben Hernandez recently posted this nice article on 101 Apparel. A portion of the post is below.

"Music is the Message" is a statement that appears on the front of one of 101 Apparel's many shirts and it serves as all-encompassing prose to define their growing retail line. Owner and designer, Eric Crandell, sought to meld the various facets of design and music by channeling them through fashionable garb. After all, for many musicians, creativity and self-expression not only dwell in their respective musical compositions, but also in their attire. Prior to starting 101 Apparel, Eric was the Art Director at Ubiquity Records, a record company specializing in rare grooves. At Ubiquity, he developed many of the company's eye-catching designs for album cover art, silk screens, logos, and clothing. After becoming well equipped with the knowledge and skills to create an apparel line, Crandell developed 101 Apparel in 2005. click here to read the full article.

Typo Graphical - Interview with 101 Apparel

Typo Graphical is a design site/blog focused on the t-shirt game (t-files), its a nice mix art, design and music related posts, we were happy to be featured on the site. A porition of the post is below.

"Having written about a million product descriptions for musically-inspired T-shirt graphics, as well as running my own little reggae brand on the side, you could say I’m a little bit obsessed with how you can coherently translate ideas about music into images. One person who can do this better than just about anyone I know is Eric Crandell. I first came into contact with Eric’s design through all the great work he did for Ubiquity Records. Later, DG picked up Eric’s own musically-inspired label 101 Apparel too, so I got another dose of excellent graphics from him. Today Eric was kind enough to answer some questions about his work…" click here to read the full interview.

Free Your Mind, Hooded Fleece featured in SLAM Magazine

101 Apparel always likes to drop a little nugget of music knowledge with its designs and with this one it’s a reference to P- Funk’s classic track that has been sampled by everyone and boasts many imitators. Support the message with this design that utilizes some really dope font lettering and displays at the top the head of an icon with a speaker inside.
