PLACES AND SPACES

Donald Byrd is one of the main jazz pioneers who moved from the soul- jazz sound of the 60’s into the 70’s with a more cosmic funk jazz emphasis. While many critics saw him as selling out or “going soft”, that move has now been vindicated by history as an act of genius artistry. Spaces and Places is the album that was produced by the legendary Mizell Brothers and was also famously sampled by Pete Rock. This album under the Mizell Bros tutelage served as Donald Byrd’s transition into disco funk, and anyone who hasn’t heard “Love Has Come Around” needs to go out and cop that 12’ immediately! This design appeals to the jazz cats, cosmonauts, and the disco and boogie excavators!
